2024: Year in Review

As 2024 comes to an end and 2025 rolls in, we’re looking back at some AAADM highlights from the past year.

We began the year with Inspector Certification renewal testing via the newly introduced online certification website, MyAAADM.com. The online portal enabled individuals who are already certified to access their accounts, print certification ID cards, pay recertification fees, and update their contact information. As we said at the time: “In many ways, AAADM Certified Inspectors are the backbone of our automatic door industry … This is why it’s so important that Inspectors remain current on their certification – and why AAADM requires annual renewals with a testing component.”

In Q1, we encouraged members to use the Public Policytab of AAADM.com as a treasure trove of shareable content to promote their business. It is updated regularly with new content related to government affairs, legislation governing building access, and public issues regarding attitudes and developing interest in automatic doors. All content on this tab is shareable. Member companies would be wise to spend a few minutes each month reviewing this section for information pertinent to their customers, constituents, and states of residence, and sharing what is relevant.

In June, against a scenic backdrop at Florida’s Westin Cape Coral Resort at Marina Village, we held the 2024 AAADM Annual Meeting. It was another great opportunity to gain the latest industry knowledge, network, and further the mission of AAADM. On the second day, we approved a new associate AAADM member, BBC Bircher America.

Also in June, AAADM’s own Kathleen Carroll was the subject of an article in Facility Executive magazine. Kathleen shared how being injured on vacation gave her a new appreciation for the ways automatic doors contribute to building access and individual independence. You can read the article here: https://facilityexecutive.com/point-of-view-how-automatic-doors-make-a-difference/.

Later in the fall, we updated members on some minor changes to ANSI A156.10, Standard for Power Operated Pedestrian Doors, and ANSI A156.27, Standard for Power and Manual Operated Revolving Pedestrian Doors.

We ended the year by welcoming Marcus Keenan to the role of Certification Committee chair. He will oversee all aspects of inspector training, certification, and testing. “If you look at the big picture of AAADM, safety is at our core,” said Keenan. “Having the Certification Committee to certify Inspectors, to make sure they have the latest standards, elevates the entire industry.”

We also wanted to mention that 2024 was our first year with Christina Pannos as AAADM’s legal counsel. She stepped in due to unfortunate circumstances, following the unexpected passing of previous counsel Nathan Breen last December after a stroke. Nathan had been AAADM’s legal adviser since 2019. We appreciate all that Christina has done for the association and look forward to having her represent us moving forward.

In 2025, we’re expecting another busy year. Demand for the industry’s products continues to grow, and AAADM will be there to keep members updated on what’s new.
